Mama Jack

Nov 27th, 2005 Posted in Blog Entries | no comment »

I ahve written my first IMDB movie review !!! Yay! I feel so important!

IMDB: Mama Jack

I am still waiting for it to be approved, but here is what I wrote about Mama Jack:

When someone told me this was a Leon Schuster film, I immediately thought that this would be another one of those candid camera films he was so famous for, because, in my view, he is entirely incapable for having an actual plot in a film. So, it was quite reluctantly that I walked into the cinema. In fact, I am sure I only walked in because of the trailers that were showing…but was I surprised!

This was one of the best South African films I have seen in a VERY long time, considering is genre. I laughed this entire film through because of the fabulous story telling, good acting, and above all, the hilarious Leon Schuster!

Jack Theron is fired from the film set of the movie after he allegedly attacked a famous American actress. He thankfully evades capture by the police. His best friend supplies him with a costume that looks like an entirely real woman. While on the run, he finds himself in the home of an American woman, who mistakes him for her new maid. Attracted to her, he continues the charade, but things get more complicated when he finds out that her boyfriend is the director who fired him. At the same time, he adopts another disguise so that he can court his new boss. As the situation gets more complicated, things eventually come to a head and the truth comes out… with disastrous consequences.

Truth be told, this was the most hilarious film I have seen in the 15 years of my existence.

9 our of 10!!!

Anyway, so that is my rating on mama jack.

Musical Midi Magic

Nov 25th, 2005 Posted in Blog Entries | no comment »

Anyway, as some of you know, I have written a musical, and it is on the verge of completion. I have finished writing it. Now, Over the SA Summer Holidays a kulture organizer at my school is going to examine my musical, its music, sort out copyright stuff, or so I gather, and then just make a few changes to the dialog.

So, here is a url which will take you to the PDF for my musical: Untitled PDF (42 Pages)

So, some of it is in Afrikaans, which is most likely to you a foreign language, but the songs are in english. One isnt.

The Midi’s for the songs can be found here: Musical Midi’s

Of course, they sound much better when a computer s not playing them. So, please give feedback. The end script will be far better.

Fantastico

Fantastico is one of my best friends when it comes to hosting. Someone who can be extra ordinarily lazy, like me, like to have things done for you. Fantastico is the web version of that dream. Why?

It installs scripts like phpBB, SMF, Joomla!, Mambo, Wordpress and the list goes on…in fact, here is the list:

Now, as I have said, I like things done for me, and this is it! It installs these scripts on demand Just a few clicks and you are off! The range of scripts are fantabulous! So, if I choose a host, I always make sure they ahve trusty Fantastico before I sign up…along with Mod_Rewrite, which is the tool for url manipulation.

Anyway, so, if you choose a host, make sure they have CPanel, Mod_rewrite enabled and Fantastico!

Windows Live

Nov 22nd, 2005 Posted in Blog Entries | no comment »

Windows Live is the new concept by Microsoft. I think they are trying to immetate google, personally. With the personilized google home page and now this (which is basically the same thing) product from microsoft.

Windows Live (which is still in beta) inclused the following features (quoted from the “Live” site)

Windows Live
Have your way with this page. Sign in, get the content you want—news, sports, search results, whatever—add columns, and move stuff around at will. It’s all you.

Windows Live Mail
It’s all-new Web mail, built from the ground up. Preview your e-mail without loading a new page each time (like Outlook®) drag and drop messages into folders, and generally power through your e-mail in a flash.

Windows Live Safety Center
It’s like taking your PC in for a tune up at the service station. If the service station was free and available 24/7. Get free on-demand virus cleaning and a comprehensive PC health checkup to help keep your PC running its best.

Windows Live Favorites
You are away from your own computer and want to get to the important sites you use everyday? No problem, now that your Internet Explorer Favorites can travel with you.

Windows Live Messenger
(coming soon) This will be the next-generation MSN Messenger. The name is new, but it will still be free to download Messenger and use most of its features. And there will be some remarkable new ways to instantly share and connect with friends.

Windows OneCare Live
(coming soon) The things you should have to help protect your PC, but probably don’t because they’re such a hassle. Stuff like virus scanning, firewall settings, tune ups, and software backups—tied up with a bow and delivered to you in a friendly, easy-to-use package that runs quietly in the background.

Windows Live Search
The things you should have to help protect your PC, but probably don’t because they’re such a hassle. Stuff like virus scanning, firewall settings, tune ups, and software backups—tied up with a bow and delivered to you in a friendly, easy-to-use package that runs quietly in the background.

Now, according to the site, this is the defenition of Windows Live:

Your online world gets better when everything works simply and effortlessly together. That’s the basic idea behind Windows Live. So the things you care about - your friends, the latest information, your e-mails, powerful search, your PC files, everything – comes together in one place. This is a brand new Internet experience designed to put you in control. And this is just the beginning – you’ll see many more new services in the coming months.

This, people, is the first step to global computing. Why? Because the industry is realising that in order for everything to come together in perfect harmony, it must be centrilized. The web is the perfect medium for doing so because everything on the web can be shared and is availible for anyone.

Now, imagine this:

You are not in the mood to go to work today, so you send an email from your cell to your boss informing him you will be working from home today. No problem, because of the new services becoming availible, your entire office will be on the web. So, you go online, log into your Office with Microsoft Office Online and there you see all your latest documents you are working on. Your databaes; your graphic designs, everything.
Need to share a document, just type in the email address of the person who can view the document, and it will be made availible for both of you to edit at the same time even though you are on different sides of the world.

Now, we go a step further. Google releases a service where you can have 1000 Gig of space and your entire computer is then moved to their server, meaning the only thing you will have on your PC is your browser, which is specifically developed to already have their static stuff loaded on your OC, meaning then that even if you don’t have a high speed internet access, you can still use their cervice with ease.
You log into your account, and voilla! There is everything you will need. Google OS which you work through your browser. You can share anything, and seamless Google adds pay for everything. Now, you want to listen to some music, you go to Google Music section on your “OS” and you can listen toany song you want for free. Why, because the adds pay.

Your entire life can be there. That can be your home page which any person will be able to access because of permissions you can set, meaning you will have a home page for your friends, another one for colleuges and another one for family, depending who is surfing.

So, if you can’t see all this by 2010, at the latest, then open your eyes. Do one google search and you will see we are closer to localised and shared computing then you may think. ;)

Ratanga Junction

Nov 18th, 2005 Posted in Blog Entries | no comment »

Today was my outing to Ratanga Junction! and oh my word….it was SOOO much fun!
Here is a picture of me (in the yellow hat) and my friends.
Anyway, there were very little people there, so we got to ride all the rides without getting off and just going and going and going. The ride you see bove, we were on like 11 consecutive times. Also, the meanest rollercoaster around, the cobra, which has a top sped of 120 KM/h (74.2 M/h)
The scariest ride of the day, was the human cattapult. You have to pay extra for becasuse it is a very complicated ride. i will talk you through it.
You walk in and you pay the money, the they put this wierd whole-body strap around you with this white pole thing hanging by your feet. Then you move to a podium, and then you are instructed to put your feet through the pole, which pulls the stap tight, and you must keep your feet there, which is the only mercy for you not to fall out of the suite. Then they tell you to hold on to a long blue horizontal pole infront of you and then you suddenly fall forward. They tell you to let go and to other person hanging tightly next to you, to pull a rope.

Now, I was hanging there, about 2 meters from the ground, scaring myself to death, and Barry (my friend) was the one who had to pull the rope to doomsday. Then, you are lifted so far off the ground, that you cannot see the ground any longer! By this time I was screaming that I want to get off and that I don’t want to do this anymore. They would not listen!!! They signalled Barry to let the rope go which would make us fall, and i screamed to him (even though he was hanging tighly next to me) that if he lets go of that rope I would never talk to him again! I was in tears! I couln’t even see the ground anymore!!!!!!

Then, he let go, and I screamed my lungs out! He fell head first to the ground at a staggering rate, and then we started swinging forward at an amazing speed, and I was busy sending puke in every direction! We went flying over the river, going backards and forwatrds like on a disturbingly high and disturbingly evil swing/cattapult.

At last they told us we must grab onto a hoop to slow down and to come back down, which we did, and when I hit the ground, the people were cleaning the grass beneith us from the sick I protruded during the ride. They seemed to be used to doing this.

I was totally disturbed. Anyway, the rest of the day went a lot better, and i enjoyd myself a lot. I am goign there again next year!!!

My outing

Nov 17th, 2005 Posted in Blog Entries | no comment »

Well, we are finsihed with school. The math picnic was actually fun. Anyway, I am posting late because I just want to mention that tomorrow I am going to Ratanga Junction (an extremely large and fun theme park) with three friends, Mia, Daleen and Barry. I will hopefully be able to get some pictures.

Anyway, have a great day!

My Podcast

Nov 16th, 2005 Posted in Blog Entries | no comment »

Well, my new podcast for my website, Virtual Hogwarts, VHC, is now online. I have uploaded my demo episode a few days ago, and my first official episode one will be online. You can check it out by clicking here:

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Anyway, unfortunatly the website doesn’t look right in Internet Explorer, which is a pity, but IE is no longer W3C Complaint, meaning that some wbsites will no longer work on it, no matter what we do. So, if you are using it, i suggest you Get Firefox.

Also, everything is going well with the Podcast. It will, obviously take some time to get it off its feet, but I at least now have a second presenter, I have got shoutouts and I have crowd participation.

School is almost over. At least, the “exams” are almost over. We didn;t really write end of the year exams, we only did these government assesment thinys, which were utterly boring, but still better than an exam. So, Tuesday will be my first day as a free person. Monday the entire English High Grade class is goign to watch Shakespeare in Love. Tomorrow we are doing this “math picnic” meaning we go outside and have a mathematical picnic. This is probably to count the probability of leaves in summer srouting more on some trees than others….but at least I doubt that we will use Pi and all thsoe other stupid things.

I never told you this, but my subjects for next year are final. I can finally take what I want, and here they are:

Mathematical some-or-other-word
Afrikaans Home Language
English Home Language
Life Orientation

Those are the subjects I am forced to take. Here are my other subjects:

IT (Advanced Computer Training, aka Programming with JAVA etc.)
CAT (Basic computer skills, aka working with Word, Exel, Windows etc.)
Drama (Kinda self explanitory)

So, other than Life Orientation (Really, I am sick of hearing the word “AIDS”) I have quite enjoyable subjects. Not only that, but I am going to be with the new teachers which we are getting next year with all my subjects.

Anyway, to stop this post from becoming too long, I’ll stop and say goodbye. Until later!
