Buzzword Alert: Web 3.0

Right, this is the first time I have ever used a buzzword. I have recently seen articles about Web 3.0, and, this should come as no surprise, no one has come up with an exact explination. Although, I must admit that I don’t completely understand the term Web 2.0 either.

The creator of the Internet, Tim Berners-Lee, has stated that the Web 3.0 is “the Semantic Web”. Now, according to Wikipedia, the semantic web is…well…wikipedia doen’t really say.

This is going to sound very strange, but I think that your desktop will move online, and your Operating System will become absolutely useless…to most. They say that they want to move your life online, well, that may be all very well but how they plan to do that is a bit over my understanding.

Currently, you can do your Instant Messaging, Office tasks (word processing, spreadsheets), networking (a la MySpace, Facebook, Orkut etc), and many other things right in your browser. So, will Web 3.0 be the part of the webs history where everything else is moved online.

So, basically, I am seeing that in the future, it will be the speed of your internet connection that will be important; not the speed of your processor.
