I am back…

Jan 24th, 2006 Posted in Blog Entries | no comment »

It has been a difficult few days. After school began I have really been kept busy, but I am not going to bore you with horrid details. But I will say this: I am enjoying school so far.

I am also currently awaiting the second installment in the Pocket and teh Pendant series. I wrote a review on it. Speaking of which…you guys will not believe what happened to me…

Ok, I was emailing the author telling him how I worship his Pocket book, when I unexpectedly get an email reply. I read it, and a few emails later, I find that he is sending me, in South Africa, a copy of his Pocket book, since I cannot afford to buy it from america!

I’m sitting there, like, Oh my soul, did that just happen!!! I havn’t told anyone I know yet, but I will once it arrives. I cannot wait!!!!!!!!!!!

I mean, I almost want to say that the pocket book is better than Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone! Chamber of Secrets, even!

Anyway, off to do homework and wait for the Second installment.

The Pocket and the Pendant

Jan 17th, 2006 Posted in Blog Entries | no comment »

I recently…erm…”read” a book, by the name: The Pocket and the Pendant by Mark Jeffrey. Ok, to be precise, it was an audio book read by the author, which I accedently found on Podiobooks.com.

I want to as far as to say that this might have been the best book I have read in my entire existence. That includes Harry Potter. It is not every day I “pick up” a book/audiobook and start singing it’s praises. No, this specific book is an exception.

I have never read a book before where one is captured from the very first word of the book. I guess that is something most authors don’t really give a second thought. So, that would surely count as one of the best aspects of the book. You don’t have to wait several chapters just so the story can get a move on. The writing style is so unique. I mean, you can actually smell the immenent forboding in this compelling novel. You can hear from the music playing in the backround something is going to happen!

I cannot go far enough and say enough good things about Mark Jeffry’s The Pocket and the Pendant. So, do yourself a favor and listen to that book. You will not be sorry. Best of all, its FREE!

Software Review: Workrave

Jan 4th, 2006 Posted in Blog Entries | no comment »

This peice of software is just the most needed thing you have ever laid your eyes on! I discovered it while watching downloaded (legal) copies of the Go_Open TV program, which is the first Television program in the world to promote Open Source software. Anyway, Mark Shuttleworth (the South African billionare) has a segment in this show called “Doin’ it”, in which he tells us more about an Open Source software peice, and this one I found particularly useful.

Workrave is an Open Source software that runs on Linux, Windows and Mac, which helps you to stay healthy while using your computer. It informes you when it is time to take a break for 30 seconds, and then you just stand up, stretch, and you get on with your work. Every 30 minutres, you are forced to take a 10 minute break from your PC. Your PC shows you some exercises for you to do while you wait for the break to end. You are then encouraged to walk around a bit while the ten minutes come to an end.

You can of course set this to your preferences. Once you download this software, and you run it for a day or so, you will be tempted to switch it off, but try and convince yourself it is for the greater good!

Something I noticed which immediatly stood out, is the smallness of this application. It uses barely any system resources, and yet it performs such a wonderful task! (Ok this whole statement is just me trying to say more wonderful things about it, but failing terribly).

There are a few bugs here and there, but I am sure they will be staightened out, though. Stupid things, like if I right clikc on the icon, I cannot leave the menu by simply clicking somewhere else.

Anyway, you can download it by going to the official website: Workrave.org

Enjoy!

I am not getting my cellphone…

Not now anyways. The Cellhone Company came out with this thing that the contract could not be processed. I still do not have details, but I will get that phone, never fear! Anyway, I am going to make another post about a peice of software I just discovered!

One more day!

Oh, and one of my friends, Lillianne, has started her own blog! YAY! You can visit it by clicking here. I am also putting it in my links section.

See you with a new cellphone!

End of 2005

Wow. I cannot believe that the year has come to an end. :’(

Just looking back on everything that has happened this year.

I have written 2 musicals, I started blogging, I finished grade 9 (yay)….and that is not to speak of the friendship bonds made and broken this year…which leads me to my website, Virtual Hogwarts.

Wow, I don’t know where to begin. So much has happened during this year. I could write a Soap Opera of what happened and the story would never end. So many wonderful things happened, and along with those, of course, came a few terrible things. We converted to new forum software in September, upgraded it, added many new features…and more. This year we made so much process. My eyes really fill up with tears thinking back on everything that happened. All the friends we made on Virtual Hogwarts. Our enemies as well, of course. Happy new year to all of you. :’)

This year was also the year my passion for movies grew. Even though I do not write a review for every one of them, I see every single film that comes out. This will of course continue to the new year.

My PC knowledge expanded greatly. And something I never thought I would do, I did. I helped on the construction and expansion of the school website. Those of us who helped will be receiving badges. Thinking back on it now, I can actually say for certain that the person who should be the leader of the website committee (as it is now going to be called) should be Erik. Which leads me to my next subject.

My friends have really been there for me throughout the entire year. Whether it was with helping me copy homework (sorry about that) or be it with my musical with my tedious rehearsal sessions and ridiculously difficult songs. I remember that I would really loose it when Mia sings complaining that she cannot sing that high. Lol. I remember I would force a note out of her, whether she liked it or not, that note would come. Mia and Daleen are two very good friends who helped me too much to mention. They both gave e a new kind of confidence I never thought I would have. They support you if you are scared to do something (now thinking back to the Human Slingshot from Ratanga) to helping you accomplish a goal you think you cannot.

Erik, though, are one of those friends you only get once in a life time, even less so. And I have never been so lucky to have him as a friend. Never. He has never let me down in any task I ask of him. Even if that task is near the impossible. Surely people like Erik can only be a figment of one’s hopeful imagination. But no. he helped me with my musical, more than I ever thought someone would, he helped me with my website’s podcast, he made graphics and banners for me on my command. I feel so ungrateful towards him. If there was a better way to show my appreciation to him, then please tell me.

And let me not forget another influence that came across my life this year. Barry Burger. I have neevr had such a supportive friend in my entire life! He has helped me whenever I needed his help, in fact, I think I should mention that he, and only he, sat every day that he knew me, though my singing of Phantom of The Opera which myself and Mia never pass an opportunity to sing. I remember sitting in History class, when the class was done, and I was singing Phantom of the Opera to the only one who would listen. Him. I cannot say I how much I appreciate his friendship.

Which brings me to my next topic. Exactly one year ago, in December of 2004, I got drugged by the wonderful film, called the Phantom of the Opera, and as you read, I am a total slave who never misses an opportunity to sing it. I have never even thought of how long it has been. I have been worshiping and singing the songs for one year now. I know it wont stop soon!

Then it has been a good year for Harry Potter as well. I still cannot believe that Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince has been out for close to six months! I still remember that my grandfather’s brother died on that day. And then there was the Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire film. Wow. I think it was the best film I have seen this year. The best film of 2005.

I have talked about so much now. I really didn’t think I would be able to say so much. I just feel so emotional right now. This must have been the best year I have had in my life. I can impossibly not go into everything that has happened, but this should be a reminder to me of what has been, and a look into what might be.

Thanks for reading my blog in 2005.
