Linux!

I am writing this from Mandriva Linux 2005. Now, I know it is not the latest version, since the latest version in 2006. Anyway, now I must say that I kinda like linux, but I am still glad that I have two hard drives so I can switch between Linux and Windows. Basically, what I usually do on windows is this:

  • Converting Midiś to sheet music and back
  • Play Games (mostly Harry Potter games)
  • Vitual Server (what I do is I test php scripts, like SMF and so I don have to upload them)
  • Download MP3ś via Ares, a p2p network.
  • Writing and editing music (for my musicals)
  • Ripping DVDś to ISO files and writing them.
  • Mounting ISO files on Virtual DVD drives.
  • Chatting on IM things like MSN, Yahoo and Google Talk

That is all I can think of which I do on Windows frequently, besides surfing the web, of course. Now, I have come to understand that you can do all these things with Linux. The Midiś I can edit with Rosegarden; notation software. The Games…well, they are a bit harder, but I assume that you can do this with wine. The Virtual Server is easy since that is what Linux is born to do. About the MP3 downloading, I am sure linux has a p2p system. I don´t like Bit Torrent that much. Linux has tons of music editing software things, like Audicity etc. As fr the ripping of DVDś. I will have to get back to you on that one. And I know for a fact Linux can mount ISO files out of the box. And Linux also comes with Gaim so I can IM as much as i like.

Anyway, so that is basic things I need from linux.
Oh well, off to search for answers….

Sound, Glorious Sound…

I have recently had an interest in Midi files because I needed backtracks for my musical, so I downloaded a few midi files, but I realised that I had the desire to edit them. Now, I have only completed Grade one in musical theory but I am thinking of taking it up again. Now, back to the story.

Now, I was googling for something to convert midi files to sheet music and back, and I found midinotate musician. It is a great piece of work. I just love it. You can basically search for any midi on the web, edit it, play it back do whatever you want with it. I mean of course editing it in sheet music format.

Anyway, too bad the software only allows a 30 day trail. Oh Well…maybe I will buy it when the trail is over. However, there are always ways to cheat these kinda things….

Anyway, talk to you again later. Going to search for my favorite song’s backtracks.

Just Browsing

I was just looking around the net, and I was looking at my site. I also looked at how well Google indexes my site. When I search for Virtual Hogwarts on Google, I am on the 5th place. I suppose this is better than last time, when I was 9th, but it is still not satifactory. I decided that the only way I can increase my google rank, is by doing the following:

  • Contacting my web host and asking if he would be so kind as to install Mod rewrite for me. Mod rewrite is a small module that comes with Apach (the server software) and all he has to do is uncomment one line of code. That means deleting one letter from one line of code.
  • Once he has done this, my site will be able to use it’s “Search Engine Friendly Urls” feature. This means I will have html pages, instead of ugly php urls.
  • Then, my google pagerank will increase dramatically.

I have worked out that if I get this feature it should be about 3 months and I will be at least number 2. If not number one. Not only that, but more people will be attracted to my site, which means more traffic which means more members and so it continues.

Besides that, I have once again been thinking, maybe I should do something about my Linux fear. You may not know, but I have been testing Linux for a very long time. I just don’t want to get too attached because I want to test different Distro’s before i settle. I don’t want to settle for the first best option.

Anyway….that is all I have to say….bye!

I am ever so sorry

Right, I know I han’t posted in this blog in like, forever…but there is a perfectly good reason. I am extremely busy, and also, like before, I have been testing Wordpress….anyway, I liked it…kinda…

So, I am now back and I am going to post. Even if I do not do so often, I hope I will. Also, you guys may not know this, but I wrote another musical. This time a 93 minute one. I don’t think it will ever be performed, but I surely hope so. Of course, I won’t acept it to be performed on stage. it wont work as a stage production. It has to be on screen where emotions can really be shown.

Anyway, so, I will post again later…I have lots to tell you guys. Anyway, thanks for reading this. :)
